Locomotive remote
The locomotive remote is purchased in the shop at Machine Factory & Town. It is used to change the controls of a locomotive from outside the locomotive's cab.
The main advantage of the remote is that it can make shunting far easier, as the player will not have to be in the cab to operate the engines controls, allowing them to better see what is going on when at the other end of a train. This can also allow the operation of multiple locomotives at once to pull heavier trains, with the player in the cab of one locomotive while remotely controlling another using the remote. Its digital readouts can also make it easier to gauge a train's speed rather than having to read the in-cab speedometer.
Keep in mind that as the locomotive remote only works on small, modern locomotives (i.e. the DE2, the DH4, and the BE2); it cannot be used with either of the steam engines (the S060 and the S282), the DM3, or the DE6. The remote is also battery-powered and fitted with a solar panel, and will drain its battery if not exposed to direct sunlight or connected to the caboose's charging unit. Finally, the locomotive remote has limited range (a maximum of 650 meters); should you take the remote past 400 meters, the remote will struggle to maintain a signal with its paired locomotive, and beyond 650 meters the remote will lose the signal completely. The remote's signal can be boosted if used near the caboose.
History
- Remote charge speed no longer depends on sun direction
- Stylized “boosted signal” to “sgnl boost” for consistency
- Added signal boost light
- Fixed loco remote not charging through DE6’s windows
- Increased sensitivity of locomotive remote joysticks
- Added sound alert for wheelslipping using locomotive remote
