Day and Night cycle

Derail Valley features a Day and Night cycle where time flows and the sun and moon rise and set. This affects the train handling environment and player's vision, as well as solar-powered equipment. By default, the cycle lasts two "real-life" hours, which translates to five "real-life" minutes for every in-game hour.

Time can be kept track of using clocks in the station offices, and the pocketwatch which can be purchased at a shop. If a player wants to pass time, beds are available for use.

When visibility is reduced, there are various sources of lights. In addition to lampposts, there are headlights, taillights, gauge backlights, and cablights on locomotives, and items such as the flashlight, lantern, comms radio, and the lighter.
